If you're just starting to follow Bronczilla's Off Season Power Rankings, the #1, #2, #3 and 4 Power Rankings can be read by following those links.
The number in parenthesis represents the number of points each team has. Teams began these power rankings in their first week with a number of points inverse to their standing in the rankings.
For example, the Patriots began as the #1 ranked team, so they started out with 32 points.
Transactions and the number of points granted this week for each transaction are listed beneanth each team's name and ranking.
1. Eagles (31 pts)
2. Steelers (30 pts)
3. Colts (29 pts)
4. San Diego (29 pts)
5. Broncos (26 pts)
- 1 Losing S Kennoy Kennedy to Detroit.
-2 Losing LB Donnie Spragan to Miami -- Spragan did a marvelous job the past two seasons, stepping in to the LB rotation with no noticable drop off in that unit's effectiveness. This is a move that is doubly damaging with Denver's switch to a base 3-4 defense.
6. Patriots (25 pts)
7. NJ Jets (25 pts)
8. Falcons (25 pts)
+1 Signing LB Ike Reese -- A very good move for depth, but not a top flight starter.
9. Bills (24 pts)
10. Ravens (24 pts)
-1 Loss of CB Gary Baxter to Cleveland.
+2 Signing LB Samari Rolle -- Why is the loss of Baxter a -1 but the signing of Rolle a +2? I believe that Rolle is the superior CB AND Baxter is not as good as believed. He (Baxter) benefitted from playing with S Ed Reed. Rolle, being the better player, will see greater benefit from the same situation.
11. Chiefs (24 pts)
+1 Signing LB Kendrell Bell -- Just about anyone KC brings in on defense is an upgrade.
+1 Loss of DE Vonnie Holiday -- Too bad they didn't dump him last year.
+2 Signing S Sammy Knight -- Only S Darren Sharper (formerly of GB) has more INTs over the past 8 seasons than Parker has. He's pulled in 35 since coming into the league. Add to that the fact that he's had a series of 6 consecutive 100 tackle seasons and you have to pat ole Cryin' Dickey V on the back for this one.
12. Seahawks (21 pts)
-1 Loss of QB Trent Dilfer to Cleveland -- Dilfer is a class guy, a team player, and an excellent backup QB.
13. Green Bay (21 pts)
-2 Loss of G Marco Rivera to Dallas -- Missing both of their starting Gs from '04 can't be a good thing.
-2 Cutting S Darren Sharper -- Over the past 8 seasons there isn't anyone in the NFL with more INTs. Sharper has 36 over that span. How does a defense that is already struggling make up for that kind of production and consistancy?
14. Rams (21 pts)
15. Vikings (21 pts)
+1 Siging CB Fred Smoot -- I don't see Smoot as an elite CB, he benefitted greatly from playing on a stellar D in Washington last season. But he's still a nice addition playing opposite CB Antowain Winfield.
16. Jaguars (17 pts)
+0 Siging DB Terry Cousins -- This is a nice move Cousins is a backup, but becomes a -1 if he's eyed as a starter.
17. Texans (16 pts)
18. NJ Giants (15 pts)
19. Saints (14 pts)
20. Panthers (13 pts)
-1 Signing CB Ken Lucas from Seattle -- Carolina's passing D (18th) may not have been great last season, but it was better than Seattle's (23rd).
21. Bengals (13 pts)
22. Detroit (12 pts)
+2 Siging S Kennoy Kennedy from Denver -- Kennedy only counted as a -1 leaving Denver, but whoever replaces him there will have some pretty strong help (Lynch, Bailey, Walls). Here in Detroit, however, Kennedy is the closest thing to a star player the team has.
23. Redskins (11 pts)
24. Cardinals (11 pts)
+1 Signing QB Kurt Warner from the NJ Giants -- Warner proved last year that he still has enough left in him to help out a bad team.
25. Cowboys (10)
+1 Signing G Marco Rivera from Green Bay.
26. Buccaneers (8 pts)
27. Raiders (6 pts)
28. Bears (5 pts)
29. Miami (5 pts)
+1 Signing LB Donnie Spragan from Denver -- Weather he starts or has to settle for another supporting role, Spragan is a big gun just coming into his own.
30. Browns (4)
+1 Signing QB Trent Dilfer from Seatlle -- Dilfer is smart, reliable and tough. Don't be surprised if he's starting on opening day.
31. Titans (3pts)
32. 49ers (3 pts)
