#4 Off Season Power Rankings

If you're just starting to follow Bronczilla's Off Season Power Rankings, the #1, #2 and #3 Power Rankings can be read by following those links.

The number in parenthesis represents the number of points each team has. Teams began these power rankings in their first week with a number of points inverse to their standing in the rankings.

For example, the Patriots began as the #1 ranked team, so they started out with 32 points.

Transactions and the number of points granted this week for each transaction are listed beneanth each team's name and ranking.

1. Eagles (31 pts)

2. Steelers (30 pts)

-1 Loss of starting RT Oliver Ross to Arizona.

3. Colts (29 pts)

4. Broncos (29 pts)

-1 Loss of DE Reggie Hayward to the Jaguars -- Recorded 10 1/2 sacks last season without the benefit of Trevor Pryce on the other side.

+1 Signing LB Ian Gold -- With the switch to a base 3-4 defense Denver needs all the LB depth it can get, and Gold will now be two years removed from ACL surgery, which means he should be nearly at 100% of what he was two years ago (which is pretty stinkin' good).

5. San Diego (29 pts)

+1 Signing Safety Bhawoh Jue -- San Diego seems to be following a Patriots style building plan, bringing quality depth rather than big name stars. After watching what they did last season I have assume that, like Bill Jerkichik, Marty and his management posse know what they're doing.

6. Patriots (25 pts)

-1 Loss of OG Joe Andruzzi -- A weakened O line could make QB Tom Brady look human and RB Corey Dillon look his age.

7. NJ Jets (25 pts)

-1 Losing RB Lamont Jordan to Oakland -- Come on, man, I love Curtis Martin, but he isn't getting any younger. The Jets just gave up the future for a present that isn't even certain.

-1 Signing RB Derrick Blaylock from KC -- Blaylock doesn't have the talent to be third string, and he's suppposed to not only step in to fill the shoes of Lamont Jordan, but also possibly step into the number one role if Curtis Martin goes down?

8. Green Bay (25 pts)

9. Falcons (24 pts)

10. Bills (24 pts)

11. Ravens (23 pts)

12. Seahawks (22 pts)

13. Rams (21 pts)

14. Chiefs (20 pts)

15. Vikings (20 pts)

+1 Signing DT Pat Williams from Buffalo -- Williams isn't much of a loss for the Bills, who had an excellent defense last season. But he's a nice addition to the Vikings. He's no superstar, but he's well rounded. My question is, why the heck are the Vikings making these second teir signings when they have a gazillion dollars of cap space available? I mean, besides the fact that they have a cheapskate owner.

16. Jaguars (17 pts)

+1 Signing DE Reggie Hayward -- The Jags may have the best D line in the NFL next season.

17. Texans (16 pts)

18. Panthers (15 pts)

+1 Signing OG Mike Wahle from Green Bay.

19. Giants (15 pts)

+2 Signing LB Antonio Pierce away from Washington -- Not only did they upgrade their own D, but they stole a key player from a Division rival. Sweet.

+1 Signing RT Kareem McKenzie from the NJ Jets -- The Giants are a team with huge needs along the O line. This is a nice start.

20. Saints (14 pts)

21. Bengals (13 pts)

22. Redskins (11 pts)

-1 Losing LB Antonio Pierce to the NJ Giants -- It's gotta hurt when your team's number one tackler from the previous year abandons ship. But the 'Skins are a quality defensive team with good coaching, so this loss won't hurt as much as it might, say, the Eagles or the Seahawks.

23. Detroit (10 pts)

24. Cardinals (10 pts)

+1 Signing RT Oliver Ross from the Steelers -- Ross started every game for Pittsburgh last season, including both playoff games, and the Cardinals need to get serious about improving their O line if the want ANY QB to be successful and stay healthy for them.

25. Cowboys (9)

26. Buccaneers (8 pts)

-1 Losing LB Ian Gold to Denver -- True, Gold wasn't much of a factor last year in Tampa, but he was still recovering from ACL surgery. The Bucs made a mistake by jumping on him then, and another by letting him go, now.

27. Raiders (6 pts)

+2 Signing RB Lamont Jordan from the NJ Jets -- Adding Jordan gives the Raiders a fantastic core of skill players, rounded out by QB Kerry Collins and WR Randy Moss. Now, if they can just overcome the ineptitude of their coaching staff and their laughable defense they could be something special.

Yeah, right, like that'll happen.

28. Bears (5 pts)

29. Miami (4 pts)

30. Titans (3pts)

31. Browns (3)

+1 Signing CB Gary Baxter from the Ravens -- Baxter started all 16 games for an excellent Ravens D last season.

32. 49ers (3 pts)

+2 Signing LT Jonas Jennings from Buffalo -- Jennings may not be an elite LT, but he's an upgrade for the 49ers AND his signing strengthens this O line at three positions. How? It also allows massive Kwami Harris to move from LT to the RT position and puts Kyle Kosier at one of the OG positions (Harris and Kosier split LT duties last season).
