Sega Takes on Madden*

UPDATED *

"But this isn't FOOTBALL!"

Oh sure, you say that now. But what were you doing while you were jonesing for the real deal to start again? Yeah, that's what I thought.

In the past, Sega's NFL offering has been badly beaten by EA Sports Madden series, falling to a mere 15% market share. So this season Sega has taken what may be considered drastic measures.

Sega is offering it's NFL 2K5 at the unheard of (for a game generally considered top shelf or "A" list) $20 vs a more traditional price for Madden 2005 of $50.

The early numbers suggest that this strategy is working, with 2K5 taking approximately a 1/3 market share in the opening weeks of head to head sales for the two games.

Some go so far as to say that 2K5 is actually the superior game, whether you're talking about graphics, or play-by-play announcing or playability.

Now it's time for the real gamers to step forward.

Use the comments section for this post to tell us what the real deal is.

Which game is better and why?

If you've a new found love for 2K5, will you be making the switch for good next year?

If you love both games, which would you pick up if you could only afford one of them and pricing were equal?

* = UPDATE

My good friend (ok, ok, I never heard of the guy before) Adam Asher says:

"This is REALLY old news. You knew about this awhile ago, right?"

To which I place my extended fingers surprisedly upon my lips and say:

Sadly, Adam, I am but slowly and only now coming around to the world of the mindless, drooling masses who spend too many of their waking hours staring slack-jawed at their televisions as they frantically thumb video controllers.

Even more sadly, most of my friends are of the same sorry ilk.

So, while this earth-shattering news has been moldering for the past few weeks within the red-eyed circles of ye slavering, gaming zombies, we poor wretches (along with the sources of our news) lag miserably behind.

Forgive us, may God have pity upon us, and may this article be for us.

Most Loving Wishes

Bronczilla

(who is not only a sorry-*ss gamer, but who has been reading way too much gothic horror, lately)
